Reconstructed Hemp Rugs & Why We’re Loving Them
Indie House has always been about sourcing beautiful finds from independent artists & craftsmen around the world.
The current find we are most obsessed with right now is our reconstructed hemp rugs. I stumbled upon Djem when I first went to market back in 2019. This independent rug craftsman created high quality products, showcased in a lowkey area of the Dallas market, making them the perfect gem to stumble upon.
Thier rug offerings were special and true to character. You can tell by the tight feel of the fibers these were quality rugs, and to hunt for designs was a fun mission, turning over stacks of rugs in the basement of a market. We always hand pick about ten or so rugs each year to ship back to Des Moines for our showroom, or to use in client projects.
This year, a particular set of black and white beauties caught our eye. Upon asking, Djem told us these rugs had been deconstructed, and reassembled into these beautiful, unique designs. Each one of a kind, these hand loomed rugs remain vintage and will last for decades to come. They can lean scandinavian to boho to contemporary, depending on how you use it. (And if you have questions, we’d love to talk rugs with you. x)
Hemp is a particularly durable rug and worth an investment if you’re considering a quality rug for your home. We love a sustainable and stylish find — and these rugs check all of the quality criteria.
